WWI Wicker Leather Pilot Seat Aviation Memorabilia Antique Aircraft Seat
A unique, historic and probably museum-worthy wicker airplane seat with leather backrest and sides from the early 20th century.
DIM: 19” W x 12 1/2 H 15 D
The seat was probably a pilot's seat of a military plane from World War I. Wicker seats were used in WWI fighters, notably the Sopwith Camel.
The second option is that it could have belonged to the pilot of an airliner of one of the first to appear in the early 20th century.
According to various old photographs, the first passenger seats were also made of wicker, but apart from the seat, they also had legs, mountings and were larger and taller. Our seat is definitely the pilot/crew seat.
I encourage you to read the article and photos about the beginnings of airline seats on the Internet. We attach some photos that we managed to find.
