This is a rare antique sheet music collection from the early 1900s, featuring 27 original illustrated pieces professionally bound in a hardcover volume. Compiled in 1917 by Eva Stutz, this unique album includes iconic American songs from the Tin Pan Alley era, early Broadway musicals, and ragtime classics.
The owner's label: Fräulein Eva Stutz, residing in Bad Landeck in Schlesien (Marienstraße), Germany – now known as Lądek-Zdrój in Poland, formerly part of German Silesia.
Each piece retains its original color cover art, with themes ranging from romantic ballads to novelty songs, Hawaiian love songs, early jazz, and vaudeville hits. Many feature portraits of performers like Al Jolson or Carrie Lillie. Songs include major hits like “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” by Irving Berlin, “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” by Chauncey Olcott, and “For Me and My Gal” by Meyer and Goetz.
The collection also contains a rare self-published piece, “Persian Dream” by L.K. Nweeya, including a 1915 newspaper clipping related to his wartime story. Throughout the album, handwritten notes and signatures by the original owner add historical value and authenticity.
Well-preserved and full of charm, this album offers a fascinating glimpse into American popular culture before the radio era. It is ideal for collectors of early 20th-century music, vintage ephemera, or historical Americana.
